As one of Canada's most innovative and adventurous filmmakers, Peter Mettler's credits include the award-winning essay documentaries Picture of Light and Gambling, Gods and LSD. He is also a respected cinematographer, an acclaimed photographer and widely considered one of the pioneers in the field of live image mixing. A Toronto premiere, the Teledivinitry exhibit is a set of 18 light boxes (all hand-constructed) featuring densely layered images taken from our media environment. The original clarity of representation is decayed, paradoxically giving way to a more abstract and painterly form. Different shapes and figures emerge through an almost hallucinatory shift in perception and many of the images assume a religious or iconic significance.
